6.609 hab. 197 km² Santa Fe
San José de la Esquina is a city in the Caseros department, located in the south of Santa Fe province. The municipal jurisdiction records 6,872 inhabitants, while the urban core gathers 6,609 inhabitants, according to the results of the 2022 Census. It was declared a city by Provincial Law N.º 14.226.
It is located on Provincial Route N.º 92, on the right bank of the Carcarañá River and near the border with Córdoba province. Its location, approximately 120 kilometers from Rosario, integrates it into the productive corridor that links southeastern Córdoba with southern Santa Fe and the main port and agro-export complexes of Greater Rosario.
Its history dates back to the Guardia de la Esquina, mentioned since 1730 as a fort, post, and strategic point of the old Camino Real. This origin gives it a unique historical identity and heritage with potential for the development of cultural, educational, and regional tourism.
Historically linked to agriculture and livestock, San José de la Esquina is part of one of Argentina's most productive agricultural regions. Its economic framework integrates cereal and oilseed production, storage, commercialization, logistics, input supply, agricultural services, pork production, and metalworking activities.
The city has local companies with a long history in grain storage and commercialization, associative ventures dedicated to adding value to primary production, and SMEs manufacturing machinery, equipment, and implements for the agro-industrial sector.
The industrial sector is in the process of consolidation, accompanied by projects to improve access, urban infrastructure, sewage network, bus terminal, and public services. These actions allow for projecting new establishments linked to agro-industry, food production, metalworking, logistics, and specialized services.
The city's scale facilitates direct articulation between the municipal government, companies, producers, educational institutions, and civil society organizations.
Among its strategic institutions are the Escuela de Educación Técnico Profesional N.º 476 “Miguel Castellanos”, with more than 70 years of experience and workshops for technical training, and the Instituto Superior del Profesorado N.º 62 “Ángela Cullen”, which offers training in computer systems, occupational safety and hygiene, history, and geography.
This framework represents a concrete basis for developing job training programs, applied innovation, professional practices, and linking education with the needs of local companies.
San José de la Esquina presents a balanced urban environment, with local services, green spaces, sports and educational institutions, and a strong community identity.
Plaza San Martín, historical architecture, the Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes Parish, and the natural environment of the Carcarañá River form an attractive urban landscape, with favorable conditions for the residence of professionals, technicians, entrepreneurs, and families.
The city offers strategic conditions for companies and investors seeking to integrate into a productive territory, with competitive operating costs, proximity to agro-industrial and port centers, availability of human capital, and expansion opportunities.
The main access is via Provincial Route N.º 92, a corridor that connects San José de la Esquina with Arteaga, Arequito, Casilda, and the road system accessing Rosario. Proximity to Rosario allows access to airport, port, university, and highly complex business services infrastructure.
The regional electrical infrastructure was strengthened by a 33 kV medium voltage line, aimed at improving the quality and stability of supply for the towns and productive activities of the corridor. The city also has digital connectivity, telephony, educational establishments, health services, financial entities, shops, clubs, and civil organizations.
The main tourist differential of San José de la Esquina is the combination of history, nature, and local culture. Among its attractions are the replica of the Fuerte Guardia de la Esquina, declared a provincial historical monument; the Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes Parish, recognized as a provincial historical building; the local museum, and circuits related to the old Camino Real.
The Carcarañá River and the municipal spa offer spaces for camping, recreation, outdoor activities, and nature tourism proposals. The offer is complemented by guided historical tours, educational activities, artisan and entrepreneur fairs, and regional gastronomy.
Highlighted events include the Festival Cuenca del Carcarañá, the patron saint festivities in honor of Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes, the sports competition San José Corre, and various cultural and community activities developed throughout the year. These proposals constitute a platform with potential for new investments in accommodation, gastronomy, rural tourism, recreational activities, and services for visitors.
