"We are committed to the development of Concordia with order, honesty, hard work, and compliance with the rules."
Concordia (officially named San Antonio de Padua de la Concordia) is one of the most important and populated cities in the province of Entre Ríos, Argentina.
Geographically, it is located in the northeast of the province, nestled on the right bank of the majestic Uruguay River. This strategic location places it right on the international border, directly opposite the Uruguayan city of Salto, with which it shares a deep cultural, social, and economic connection through the bridge that crowns the Salto Grande Dam. It is located about 260 kilometers from the provincial capital, Paraná, and about 430 kilometers from the City of Buenos Aires, connected by important Mercosur routes.
Its formal history began on November 29, 1831, when it was founded by decree of the General Assembly of Entre Ríos with the purpose of pacifying and populating the region after the harsh periods of civil wars that plagued the Argentine coast. However, long before its foundation, these riverside lands were inhabited by indigenous peoples such as the Charrúas and Guaraníes, and marked by the settlements of the Jesuit missions.
An iconic cultural milestone in its history occurred in 1929, when the famous French writer and aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, author of The Little Prince, accidentally landed in the area and stayed at San Carlos Castle, an experience he captured in his work and which left a magical mark on the local identity. Decades later, between the 70s and 80s, the construction of the imposing Salto Grande hydroelectric plant completely reconfigured the regional geography and notably accelerated the demographic and urban growth of the city.
Economically, Concordia is widely recognized as the National Citrus Capital due to its massive production and export of high-quality tangerines and oranges. The agro-industrial sector is complemented by extensive blueberry plantations destined for the international market and strong forestry activity based on the cultivation of pines and eucalyptus, which feeds numerous local sawmills.
As a tourist destination, the city stands out for its varied offering of nature and well-being. It has modern thermal complexes that attract visitors throughout the year in search of relaxation and therapeutic properties. Its recently remodeled waterfront offers an extensive and attractive pedestrian promenade ideal for enjoying the Uruguay River at sunset. Likewise, San Carlos Park protects seventy hectares of gallery forest, coastal landscape, and the legendary ruins of its castle, while the enormous artificial lake of Salto Grande is positioned as the perfect setting for sport fishing for dorado and the practice of water sports. During the summer, local culture shines with maximum intensity in its Corsódromo, where the Concordia Carnival displays all its rhythm, color, and competitive passion, consolidating the warmth and festive spirit characteristic of the identity of the people of Concordia.
