Business and territorial profile of the city of Oliva (Córdoba)

Location / Geographical Context

The city of Oliva, located in the Tercero Arriba department of the province of Córdoba, has a population of 14,568 inhabitants and is part of the main productive corridor in the center of the country. It is situated in one of Argentina's most dynamic agro-industrial regions, characterized by high agricultural productivity, strong livestock development, and increasing industrial diversification.

Strategically located on National Route N.º 9, Oliva is approximately 100 km from the city of Córdoba and 300 km from Rosario, maintaining excellent connectivity with the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, the main agro-export ports, and the most important logistics centers in the country. This location consolidates it as a strategic hub for industrial, commercial, and logistical development in central Argentina.

Productive Context.

The city presents a diversified economic matrix with a strong agro-industrial identity, supported by agricultural production, food processing, manufacturing industry, and logistics services.

The city is part of one of the main agricultural and livestock regions of the province of Córdoba, highlighting the production of soybeans, corn, wheat, peanuts, sorghum, and alfalfa, along with significant bovine and porcine livestock activity that supplies multiple agri-food value chains.

One of the main distinguishing features of Oliva's productive identity is its sausage and cured meat industry, recognized for the quality of its products and a tradition that dates back to European immigration waves. Family businesses and long-standing establishments have managed to position the city as a provincial benchmark in the production of salamis, cold cuts, and regional specialties, combining artisanal processes with technology and industrial innovation. This sector constitutes one of the largest value-added contributors to regional pork production and represents an activity with strong potential for expansion into new national and international markets.

The dairy industry constitutes another of the city's economic sectors with strong potential. Integrated into one of the most important dairy basins in the country, Oliva has establishments producing cheeses and dairy derivatives of recognized quality.

As a differentiating element within the Argentine industrial fabric, Oliva hosts a leading company in the manufacture of coffins, supplying numerous provinces and countries in the region, consolidating a highly specialized manufacturing sector with capacity for innovation, job creation, and technological development.

The strategic location on the country's main bi-oceanic corridor has also favored the development of an important logistics and cargo transport sector, with national and international companies operating large-scale fleets and providing comprehensive solutions for the movement of goods.

Healthcare Profile

One of Oliva's main differentiating features is its consolidation as a regional and provincial reference healthcare center. The city hosts the Dr. Emilio Vidal Abal Hospital (HEVA), recognized as one of the most important specialized mental health hospitals in Latin America and a historical reference in the province of Córdoba.

This healthcare profile is complemented by the Zonal Hospital, private clinics, medical centers[U1], laboratories, and an extensive network of healthcare professionals, consolidating Oliva as a hub for healthcare services for a wide region of central Córdoba.

Context of inter-institutional articulation / Institutional framework

Oliva has a solid institutional framework that favors articulation between the public sector, the private sector, educational institutions, and civil society organizations to promote economic development and innovation.

The city has an Agro-environmental Park with capacity for the establishment and expansion of new companies, accompanied by local policies to promote employment, support entrepreneurship, and strengthen the productive sector. In addition, a project for an Industrial, Logistics, and Food Park is being developed in the vicinity of the town.

In terms of education and human capital training, it has initial, primary, secondary, and higher education institutions, in addition to the Universidad Popular de Oliva, which articulates training programs with national universities.

Likewise, the city actively participates in international cooperation programs related to sustainable urban development, climate action, and public innovation, strengthening its position as a municipality open to cooperation and the exchange of experiences.

Its main attraction is the National Malvinas Museum (MUNAM), considered one of the most important and complete spaces dedicated to the Malvinas War in Argentina. Declared of historical, cultural, and tourist interest by the Province of Córdoba, the museum safeguards a valuable documentary heritage, original objects, aircraft that participated in the conflict, and research material that make it a national reference site for the preservation of memory, education, and recognition of veterans and fallen soldiers. Each year it receives school groups, researchers, and visitors, positioning itself as the city's main tourist attraction and a true symbol of Oliva's identity.

As the highest expression of its cultural identity, Oliva hosts the National Gaucha Christmas Festival, a unique celebration in Argentina that, since 1962, fuses Christian tradition with gaucho culture through an emotional Creole liturgy, traditional parades, folk shows, regional gastronomy, and the participation of local institutions.

Sport is another of Oliva's great assets. The presence of Independiente Deportivo Social Club, an institution that competes in the Liga Nacional de Básquet, the highest category of Argentine basketball. Its participation represents a milestone for a city of its scale, projecting Oliva's name nationally, generating economic movement linked to sports tourism, and consolidating a strong community identity around one of the most outstanding sports projects in the interior of the country.

This combination of historical heritage, memory tourism, gastronomy, high-performance sports, and quality of life makes Oliva a city with a unique identity, capable of attracting visitors, strengthening its community's sense of belonging, and projecting itself as an emerging destination within central Córdoba.

The project seeks to consolidate a space with adequate infrastructure, environmental sustainability criteria, and orderly urban planning, offering lots under competitive conditions and financing tools that facilitate private investment. In this way, the Park is positioned as a driver to diversify the local economic matrix, strengthen the productive fabric, and promote sustainable growth of the city.
